One of my favorite parts about San Francisco is there is always something cool happening in the nooks and crannies. One such nook is Ark 221
Located at 221 11th St in the SOMA; it is one of the more interesting shows in the Bay Area namely because of it’s association with Sammy Franco.
Sammy brings some of the greatest underground comedy all-stars to the Ark every month and Rocktober is no different. Featuring Bryant Hicks, Will Ratblood, Kaseem Bentley, Soul Brother Jesse Elias, Miles K, David Hawkins, Donny Divanian, others and myself it’s the show I’ve always wanted to happen. And it’s actually happening. $5. 8 PM. 221 11th St. See you there.
Here’s something neat guys! Stand-up extraordinaire Nina G let me see a collection of notes from years past. This is an amazing bit of budding comedy thoughts through a fresh, impressionable mind, funneled through pop culture references and observations from friends. While most of the note is incomprehensible due to the use of out of context and situational code words, the charming high-school-ness comes out very clear.
My favorite parts of this note are:
"[Of Giligan’s Island] What did Mary Ann and Ginger do for tampons? Did the Professor make them out of coconuts?"
"[Running scene from Rocky] Why are 100 kids keeping up with him." (Nina has a point, how do children run along side a world class athlete)
and some cool conceptual ideas like: Audrey Hepburn doing “Another Funky Brother” by Public Enemy.
