Today we celebrate the existence of Mary Van Note. Hopefully today she can eat cake, or Swedish fish, or Ethiopian food. Whatever she eats, may she continue to be a bright light in comedy and one of my favorite comedians. Happy Birthday Mary.
Once again Its on! Speech Therapy is back at it! Celebrating its 5th year anniversary as San Francisco’s hottest Monthly Stand Up Comedy Showcase! This show represents the pinnacle of Speech Therapy’s ability to sustain the most consistent showcase in San Francisco. For the last 5 years, Kiko Briez has constantly produced shows that have been epic, and that have spawned the Comedy Careers of many Bay Area Comedians, as well as …those in LA! With the assistance from the Legendary Tony Sparks, this production has outlasted many of the fly by night shows that have sprouted up in the city, within the last 5 years. What makes this night even more meaningful, is that this show will also be Tony Sparks Birthday celebration. Everyone will be in the building, paying homage to Speech Therapy as well as Tony Sparks. Co-Hosted by the very funny Daryus Monday and the very talented Chris Ayag, this show will be blazing from the start! Also featuring the very hilarious Comedienne Marcella Argeullo, who is also the Producer of the Fresh Kids of Comedy show, which just sold out the Sacramento Punchline recently. Also on the bill, is Brian Yang! An up and coming comic who is also a member of the Fresh Kids Comedy production, who is sure to kill it once the mic hits his hand! Speech Therapy will also be unveiling its first and only Resident Comic in its 5 year history! Jabari Davis people! Coming off of a year of Epic proportions, Jabari Davis (front runner for Comic of The Year in 2011), has been blazing trails in Business, as well as a Comedian. Singlehandedly credited with bringing an economy to the San francisco comedy scene, all while cornering the market with his unique Point of View, and natural comedic style! Never says the same thing twice; also the producer of Jabari Davis and Associates wknd series at The Purple Onion. Sold out every month! This will be a night worth putting on the calendar, all of this talent for free!! Speech Therapy does it again!
(Kiko Breiz makes the dopest flyers. Also, this could be the house of THE CONCLUSION of the David Cairns/ OJ Patterson dance off. Hopefully DJ MYKE ONE has James Brown.)
On Wednesday at the Stud, young-new comedian asked me “Were you the guy who told me to meet you after the show?” No, that was
And the culprit was: Alison Klemp
(Now I don’t fault her for the confusion. Apparently earlier that night Kaseem went on stage and did is usual, angsty-near-rapey interaction with the female section of the audience [i.e. Alison]. As he receded into the darkness, I entered the Stud so it was almost like WWF 80s tag-team “The Killer Bees”. One moves out, the other moves in, referee is bewildered. Also, Alison get’s my support for standing up for comedy at the Brainwash last week so razzing aside, she’s awesome).
