"I’m sorry if the artist is here, but I don’t see your vision. This is shit… The ATM sign is the most artistic thing over there."

— Colleen Watson on the background art @ Ladies Night Brainwash

Tonight I will performing at the Purple Onion at 8 PM. 140 Columbus Ave. SF. $20. Presented by Jabari Davis. Come out!

Obviously that’s not me on the poster, that’s my good friend Stuart Thompson. This show is very exciting on a number of fronts. Stuart helped put together this show, and in doing so assembled him, Richard Dreyling and myself on the bill. These two were there for the very beginning for me, a little cafe in the Lower Sproul of UC Berekely back in December of 2009. Changed my life. They were also the reason I went to the Brainwash for the first time. Changed my life. They were there in the classroom where we workshopped jokes and practiced improv. Changed my life.
Rich and Stuart are two of the people I measure my growth against. I look to Richard for inspiration in regards of saying what’s important to you; learning how to make what is dire into something hilarious. I look to Stuart for inspiration on youth and talent and tenacity. Stuart is a year younger than me but years ahead of me in terms of voice and marketing. I’m glad we can come full circle, a Purple Onion showcase is a good milestone for the group we lovingly called “The Alternates”.
Then we have Trenton Davis and Colleen Watson, two of the most talented and polished comics in San Francisco. Trenton is super smooth, the standard for cool presentation and voice. Colleen is top brass, undeniable, watertight comedy. Nothing from her sounds amateur, or unprepared and she’s a great talent.
The Purple Onion remains the standard for historical value and overall atmosphere in San Francisco. I was there last night and the place never loses its charm. It’s my second time performing there and I’m a lot stronger tonight. It feels good going with confidence into a building where my heroes once stood.
See you there.
