Product Review: Karen Kilgariff Live at the Bootleg

image

Ravenesque, moonish, moody, glowing eyes with wolfish glint, a lady in black brandishing wit and guitar pick (corresponding with a guitar that, admittedly, isn’t living up to its potential). Karen Kilgariff is the coolest folk hero of the almost-analogue, post-comedy boom collapse era. She came into prominence in the 1990s, starting out in Sacramento, then San Francisco, then introduced (widely) on the seminal Mr. Show. She’s since matched might with Mary Lynn Rajskub as Girl Guitar Club, wrote for the Ellen DeGeneres Show and twisted on the tips of tastemakers’ tongues.

"No Budget" is the newest audio masterpiece from comedian Will Hatcher (SF00s). Financed on a budget on $2, No Budget is one of the cost effective albums of the year. On “No Budget”, Hatcher dives deep into his emotional waters and comes out with a golden orb of heartfelt songs such as “How u Want Ur Toes Sucked” and “Cake Will Make Her Shake” that are sure to leave his fans mesmerized.

[Karen Kilgariff, the crown jewel of Petaluma and your favorite comic’s favorite virtuoso, was recently on indietastic Daytrotter. It’s a proprietary music service (and so good that it’s hard to abstain) BUT, they have a free trial which you should use to listen to Karen’s session. Afterwards, you can let the membership die like a baby bird. Aw, poor bird. Karen Kilgariff’s album "Live at the Bootleg" comes out soon, but not soon enough! Check out a sample below.]

(via Comedian Grant Lyon (#SF00s) gets kneed in the groin by professional wrestler (Video))

[As a comedy enthusiast: Grant Lyon is a homie and a friend and this is bullshit. Forget the historical precedent (Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler), or delusions of kayfabe, this guy—and other big, drunk fuckers like him—don’t deserve to be in the same room or on the same stage as a comedian. I don’t know where the sentiment originated, but comedy clubs aren’t for tough guys to impose their testosterone. Comedy clubs are for people like Grant to hone their skills, give hope to the comics coming up underneath them, impress the comics above them and entertain a paying audience. Oh, and chicken fingers. Comedy clubs are for chicken fingers.
As a wrestling enthusiast: Fuck this guy DOUBLY. How are you going to dye your hair platinum and dub thyself “Nature Boy”, after one of the greatest of all time, Ric Flair, already stole that name from Buddy Rogers? How are you going to do a “cowardly heel” routine in REAL FUCKING LIFE!? How are you to take a bump and not able to take a joke? You sir/are a disservice to the great minds and talent breaking their backs across the country/world out of a love, respect or at least professionalism (it’s what the “pro” stands for!) Fuck you, Nature Boy. Wooooooo!]

Podcast: The Nato Sessions with Nato Green and Guy Branum by 3200 StoriesDownload Link: Here. iTunes: HereOfficial Link: Here

On The Nato Sessions we talk to comedian and comedy writer Guy Branum (of Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell & Chelsea Lately) about the impossible labyrinth of growing up a gay, Jewish, redneck Arkie almond farmer in rural California. We discuss working as a comedy writer while maintaining your own voice as a standup, and hash out our disagreements on boycotts, clickbait, outrage, and building the movement of gays where they go to find dick.

Watch Former SF Resident Sheng Wang’s Fallon Debut

thecomedybureau:

Though having had a Comedy Central half hour special as well as appearing on John Oliver’s NY Stand Up Show and Totally Biased, the very funny Sheng Wang hadn’t notched a late night set at one of the more traditional late night programs until now.

Watch his nicely done first set on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon here.
