Last Saturday saw the inaugural edition of “Critical Hit" a comedy show housed in nerd haven It’s Your Move Game & Hobbies in the Temescal of Oakland. Wow. Super effective. Packed to the Catans, surrounded by table top paraphernalia, casual with a tinge of naiveté, blocks from my house. I love minimal-tech, DIY guerrilla productions; they’re borderline houseparties with an obvious power dynamic. At its best it captures the speakeasy hipness of North Beach or Greenwich Village (circa 60ish). At its worse it’s a frivolous hang out. Either way, between the Goodbelly shows, George Kaye’s way back when and this, it’s good to see comedy in the under-serviced area in my neighborhood. Kudos to Dash, Hayden and Erik, three enterprising knaves who don’t know how to behave. I believe the show is going into monthly rotation and I hope it lasts. Catch all the news for the next one: here.
