The Field Negro Guide to Arts and Culture w/ W. Kamau Bell and Vernon Reid - Episode 12 - Hannibal Buress

Vernon is away this week and he’s sure gonna be mad he missed this one. Kamau is in Portland, OR and sits down with scorching hot comedian, Hannibal Buress. Hannibal has been feted in all the hip-making mags like Rolling Stone, Esquire, Variety, and Entertainment Weekly. And he has been called, “The funniest young comic I’ve seen in years.” by none other than Chris Rock. Kamau and Hannibal have some comedian shoptalk, talk about Hannibal’s brief writing career on Saturday Night Live and his hopefully soon to be longer writing career on 30 Rock. And in the grand tradition of FNGTAC they of course have a meta discussion about Hannibal’s self-esteem and whether or not he’s being type cast. Hannibal also breaks a brand new genre or YouTube vdeos. Watch out MMA!

[Hannibal Buress, what more can I say. Listen to the episode!]

The Field Negro Guide to Arts and Culture w/ W. Kamau Bell and Vernon Reid - Episode 15 - Baron Vaughn

We’re already back with another episode —— though it is Vernon free. This time for an interview with Friend of the Show Baron Vaughn. In addition to being an incredibly funny comedian, Baron also appears weekly on USA’s Fairly Legal (which was recently renewed for its second season). He and Kamau discuss his career and comedy and theatre and sociology and hats and all the fascinating, hilarious things that comics discuss when you put them in the same room.

[I’m really digging this podcast. The interwoven audio sources, and polish really stand out. I also love the mistaken identity discussion in this episode as it has plagued me from comedy day one.]
