Happy Birthday to Mr. Alex “Q Huffy” Huffman. Alex is one of my favorite new comedians of the last year. Half drunk ramblings of comedy theories and nerdom is all I could ever hope for. Here’s to you good sir

Today marks another anniversary in the life of David Cairns and the one-year anniversary of the article I wrote in his honor. I thank comedy for introducing me to people I love and those who love me back. Love is great.
Happy Birthday Cairns, though we hardly get to see each other, we make it count. Have a great day and I’ll see you at the next writing session.

Excuse me fair readers, this message is intended for only one pair of eyes.

Mister Hernandez!
How’s it going. Happy Birthday buddy. I hope the day has treated you to a few laughs and delicious food. I know you were probably hoping that I’d mention your birthday here and that it would be a sweeping tome of romantic imagery expressing elating praise.
Alas, this is not the tone of this piece.
Instead I wish only to articulate cold, hard facts: you are very funny and I appreciate your bravado, generosity and sincerity. While we disagree on open mic etiquette, I enjoy your company and wish that your next quarter century will wield many more rewards than the last. Happy Birthday again.
Sincerely,
Odetta Jean.
P.S. Do you want me to bring anything like chips or potato salad to your party?

Today is the date of the birth of the Mr. Nick Stargu, the genius mind behind the DJ REAL project. Here is a video of him performing my favorite DJ REAL song, Getting Out At Two. This was recorded in 2006, slightly altered from its studio twin, but still quaintly awesome.

A happy belated birthday to Joe Gorman. Joe sticks out in many minds as a hilarious, ferocious and unfortunately charming individual. Every one has a Gorman episode to recite, for good or bad. I particularly enjoy the anecdotes of swastikas unknowingly painted on other people’s hands. Happy Birthday J-Pup-Dog-Wolf-Sabertooth-Gore-Man

Tony Sparks, birthday having Godfather of San Francisco Comedy. There are no amount of words to describe this man and his impact on comedy for generations of performers. I hope one day he receives in ten-fold everything he has given to the Bay Area comedy scene. I hope that day is soon. Happy Birthday Tony Sparks!

Happy Birthday to Dave “T-Bone” Thomason, my gateway drug into the San Francisco Bay Area comedy cosmos. Consistently a favorite, dangerously impressive; I can’t wait until the world realizes what the Bay has known for years: Dave Thomason is hilarious.

Happy Birthday to Emily Heller. Her comedy embodies a sophistication and charm that’s hard to pin down or box in. Admirably atypical, Heller speaks with clarity and honesty; I’ve learned what I’ve wanted to do on stage (and off) thanks to her sensibilities and deftness. I look forward to her anticipated success and to continue to draw inspiration from her magnetic well.
