Courting Sketchfest Countdown: “Cynic Cave @ Lost Weekend Video” [21 Days Left]
[In a desert of deserting venues and fleeting stages, Cynic Cave underneath the Lost Weekend Video store has become an oasis of promise. The compact and homely environment was a big hit with performers/patrons at SFCBF and they’re poised to steal the show again at Sketchfest with its loose, bungalow spirit.]

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: Hail to the King, Baby: An Evening with Bruce Campbell w/ Patton Oswalt [26 Days Left]

[The legendary conclusion of the Bruce Campbell/Sam Raimi Evil Dead collaboration, Army of Darkness, experienced live with all the nerdy fixings]

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: JC Coccoli [30 Days Left]

[JC has been – live and afar – one of my favorite comedians of the year 20tweleve. Entertainment abounds from a combination of charm and dorkage, poise and stumbling, unique affectations and rolling riffs. Catch her on Jan 25 and 26 at the Cynic Cave and Stage Werx respectively]

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: “2013 SF Sketchfest Trailer” (aka, the Maelstrom). [34 Days Left]

[When spoken aloud, the line-up for this year’s Sketchfest sounds like a mad plot by the Joker to release organic SmileX]

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: ‘The Adventures of Pete and Pete Reunion’ @ The Marines’ Memorial Theater. [37 Days]

[Nothing is better than nostalgia and the 1990s was rife with little nuggets of inspired weirdness (that made it okay to be a weird kid). Pete and Pete were the cathartic surragates for my own sibling rivalries and immature idiosyncrasies and it’s exciting to warp back, if only for a second].

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: Reggie Watts returns for the second Reggidency! [38 Days]

[Reggie Watts is the widely acclaimed, wildly appreciated genius behind Reggie Watts. He’s slowly taking over hearts and minds with a beautiful, benevolent dictatorship. Don’t be afraid, just accept and patronize the brilliance and bravado @ SFSketchfest 2013]

Courting Sketchfest Countdown: Charles (2/6) and (2/7). [39 Days Left]
[Sketchfest if renown for a consistent streak of heartwarming tributes, tantalizing reunions, and emboldened deluxe screenings. It’s also a huge proponent of cross-country-comedy pollination. Charles, an award-winning duo from Seattle, is one highly infectious strand of said dissemination returns to San Francisco. Each year the team seems to come out of nowhere, a revelation to unwitting audiences, despite being active for a number of years. It’s hard to convey the genius of Charles; although, I did try hard last year. Hopefully a higher profile (like performing alongside Jeff Garlin), and increased word-of-mouth will bring wide-spread awareness to Charlie and Chuck.]

As you should already know by now, SF Sketchfest returns January 24th for it’s 12th iteration of being one of the WORLD’S premier comedy festivals. The awesomeness therein contained certainly makes this site’s job easier, and the fest’s history is a gold mine for blog-ammunition. But we’re going to take our time, we’re going to make it romantic, we’re going to spend time Courting Sketchfest. So, for the next 40 DAYS I shall be highlighting the locals, loaners, and longshots with a keen eye on the underdog while give props to the top.
[P.S. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. Some of these events will sell out immediately; Sketchfest has a Comic-Con affect at this point.]
