The Runaway Truck Driver (Storytime: Aparna Nancherla) [via aboveaverage]

[Last night I got a chance to catch Aparna at the cyniccave in San Francisco. It was my first time seeing her live since Girl Talk 1 back in 2011(?). It’s amazing how much has changed since then. Aparna is still Aparna, but it’s delightful to see how casual and conversational her style has become. No gimmicks, no pander. Aparna Nancherla is going to be my go-to for a long time because everything points to a winding, evolving, engaging artistry. I can’t wait to see—and be amused wildly by—her again.]

"Here’s a weird prejudice I have: whenever I see a skeleton, I assume it’s a male."

Here’s the piece I read at Ivan Hernandez’s lovely short story showcase, Give Me Fiction. The theme was “POWER” (Ivan’s capitals, not mine).

(via give-me-fiction)

[This will be big. The good folks at the Cynic Cave continue to cement their numero uno spot as the best place to see great comedy the world over (with no drink minimums or exorbitant service charges). Be that as it is, some comedians fear retribution, blacklisting or poor standing with the LiveNation brass so they make moves in secret. You may or may not know the silhouette of the comic coming in, but her penchant for snazziness soaked in lushy wit will make you never forget the evening. Expect more pump for this show in the coming weeks, buy your tickets in advance.]

[Aside from being a regional native, an unrivaled critical darling, a mid-1990s SF comedy luminary, unapologetically unflappable in her career trajectory , and unencumbered by the politics of modern show business, Karen Kilgariff is absolutely hilarious. It’s amazing that she’ll be performing in SF’s cradle of indie comedy, and it’ll be deplorable for you to miss this show and call yourself a fan of comedy that matters. Do not sleep on Karen Kilgariff.]
