[Matt Braunger’s San Francisco career is spotty at best. He hasn’t recorded an album here, makes sporadic appearances at various regional showcases/festivals, and I can’t remember the last time he went to the Golden Gate Bridge. Nevertheless, Braunger was featured at my first foray into the Barbary, a sticky Sunday night on bleacher seats. Not only has he been a phenomenal talent on an array of tiers, he’s one of the few comics that gets better — albeit, under the radar — every time he returns to town. He has three appearances at Outside Lands this year, get on it, San Francisco.]
[I don’t know shit about Berlin-Style Ping Pong, but I rep DJ Purple, all day + every day. San Francisco is a karaoke town. Loud, partially-accurate music, drunkenness and a talent alluding to the previous dreams, the town could practically run on “Sweet Caroline” (ba ba ba)! For my money, DJ Purple has the best songbook in the city including my favorite, hard to find karaoke gem: “Kiss Off” by the Violent Femmes. The imagination runs wild at the prospect of Purple in Golden Gate Park, a harmonious bastion of beer and funky feet.]
