Comedian Karen Kilgariff (Native) is no longer the person Marc remembers from their days in San Francisco, which is a good thing because back then she was battling some real demons. Karen tells Marc about the twists her career has taken since then and sings some songs to boot. Also, Bob Saget pops into the garage to compare notes on memoir writing with Marc.

[Two WTFPod posts in like three days? OJ, you’ve lost your touch. FUCK YOU, ME! I love Karen Kilgariff and this is MUST LISTEN material for anybody who’s trying to get cliqued up with the real and raw. Listen to this, you illegitimate children!]

Product Review: Karen Kilgariff Live at the Bootleg

image

Ravenesque, moonish, moody, glowing eyes with wolfish glint, a lady in black brandishing wit and guitar pick (corresponding with a guitar that, admittedly, isn’t living up to its potential). Karen Kilgariff is the coolest folk hero of the almost-analogue, post-comedy boom collapse era. She came into prominence in the 1990s, starting out in Sacramento, then San Francisco, then introduced (widely) on the seminal Mr. Show. She’s since matched might with Mary Lynn Rajskub as Girl Guitar Club, wrote for the Ellen DeGeneres Show and twisted on the tips of tastemakers’ tongues.

[Karen Kilgariff, the crown jewel of Petaluma and your favorite comic’s favorite virtuoso, was recently on indietastic Daytrotter. It’s a proprietary music service (and so good that it’s hard to abstain) BUT, they have a free trial which you should use to listen to Karen’s session. Afterwards, you can let the membership die like a baby bird. Aw, poor bird. Karen Kilgariff’s album "Live at the Bootleg" comes out soon, but not soon enough! Check out a sample below.]

Bay 2 LA: A Riot LA Preview (Live from I-5)

California is crazy big and insanely spoiled. We used to just have gold, now we have the Internet, which is like printing your own gold. We are smaller than Texas yet we have more sports teams. Our fucking flag has a bear on it. Most importantly, we have at least five distinct comedy scenes, and two (or more?) major alt-comedy festivals (both occurring in the month of January).

I’m currently in between rest stops. Apparently Congress created this Dust Bowl surrounding the car with decay, the perfect backdrop for writing about frivolous abundance. Riot LA is a day away/the second display of emphatic array/with podcasts, talk shows and stand-up galore/legends, upstarts, food trucks and more!

[Aside from being a regional native, an unrivaled critical darling, a mid-1990s SF comedy luminary, unapologetically unflappable in her career trajectory , and unencumbered by the politics of modern show business, Karen Kilgariff is absolutely hilarious. It’s amazing that she’ll be performing in SF’s cradle of indie comedy, and it’ll be deplorable for you to miss this show and call yourself a fan of comedy that matters. Do not sleep on Karen Kilgariff.]

Karen Kilgariff Reveals What She Wanted to Be When She Grew Up, During Interview in an Alley After a Comedy Show

thecomedybureau:

Melinda Hill has been doing a web series in tandem with the longstanding live comedy show What’s Up Tiger Lily? that she’s a part of, called All Growz Up. In an alley where Tiger Lily takes place, Hill asks some of the funniest people around that do the show what they wanted to do when they grow up like Kyle Kinane, Jon Dore, Maria Bamford, and more.

When asked, the hysterical Karen Kilgariff ends up giving some solid advice to people who have the dream of making it in comedy. Watch it here.
