You might be thinking (false premise) “I like comedy and I like women, but when and where should those two meet?” I’ll tell you: in Portland, on October 17–20th. In its second offering the “All Jane No Dick” festival elevates some of the best comedians ever assembled. Shout-out to Amy Miller, Janine Brito, and Kyle Mizono, who’ve graced the SF Bay Area in very meaningful ways, and another shout-out to the numerous CC favorites on the bill

Debuts are complex things. You don’t want to muff it up, you don’t want to overstep your limitations, you don’t want to have an epiphany in post-production. Of the innumerable concerns of producing an aural benchmark for being a comedian, the only real one should be: am I funny in large doses. That’s why I dig this Indiegogo campaign. Anything that allows the comedians I enjoy to feel relief in pursuing their goals, gets a big swell of support from yours truly. Check out the link, donate what you can, have a nice day.]

Thursday-Saturday, The S.H.I.T.s & Giggles Comedy Festival Happens In Humboldt County. $20 All Access Pass.

[Don’t know how many CC fans I have in Humboldt county, but myself, a slew of San Francisco Bay Area comedians, and  outliers from Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle and Humboldt proper, will be performing in a three day extravaganza. It’s a young, thriving scene with enduring culture, and smart decision-makers: basically it’s the ultimate comedy getaway. Check back on Courting Comedy for updates. See you on the other side.]

Jeffrey Tambor (SF Native) seems to be getting in on the online series train as he was star of Amazon Studios’ Onion News Empire as well doing the Netflix season of Arrested Development (and probably another one) and now starring in Amazon’s latest comedy project, Jill Soloway's 'Trensparent'

[I’m a little late but nonetheless intrigued by the widely revered comedian’s second foray into Oscar hosting. It always seemed disastrous when overly sensitive institutions picked iconoclastic satirists (e.g. Chris Rock or Seth McFarlane) to rough them up a bit — on censored television no less! DeGeneres seems like a better wit-fit considering that actors aren’t good with roughplay. But what do I know? I don’t even have a television.]

James Franco (Palo Alto Native) gets punched in the face. It’s a commercial for his Comedy Central roast on Labor day. My girlfriend thinks it’s kind of dumb. I think it’s Peter Parker.
