Favorite Things of Last Night: Amy Miller

[Amy Miller, performing this weekend at Cobb’s Comedy Club, is an anomaly. I last caught her set in April opening for Henry Phillips—scampy singer-songwriter—at the Punch Line. Prior to that, a long lull. That night, at the Punch Line, she was exceptionally funny, crisp, professional, and performed within herself (i.e. poised and keen). Then, last night at Cobb’s, in an uncannily short turnaround, she was even funnier. This clip is a great example of who Amy is and what Amy does (and it’s glorious to the senses). Check it out and share if you’re down with the get down]

Podcast: Sorry About Your Dad w/ Amy Miller. Episode 7 featuring Artist Ryan Alexander-Turner. Download Link: Here. iTunes: Here. Official Link: Here.

I interview comic artist and old friend Ryan Alexander-Tanner about his real dad and a variety of surrogate dads, including Dave of Dave’s Killer Bread and Bill Ayers, former Weather Underground member and activist. Find out what a dad crush is how to know if you have one!

I collaborated with Amy Miller on an important look at Twitter reactions to celebrity death. Summary: everyone is a hack, the search box is your friend, and Amy will be a mess in the unlikely event of Dolly Parton’s death.

Amy is very funny, so go see her in person this weekend at the Sacramento…

[This was written during Lou Reed’s farewell fallout, but its sentiment is pertinent on days like today.]

Amy Miller is very funny and now officially recognized by Portland’s Williamette Week. Click these words for the elaborate accolades.
[A lot of lists this time of year. I’m extremely happy that some of the comedians I love are getting nods in the press. Now if only these clippings of far away success could fill the hole in my heart caused by their absence.]

You might be thinking (false premise) “I like comedy and I like women, but when and where should those two meet?” I’ll tell you: in Portland, on October 17–20th. In its second offering the “All Jane No Dick” festival elevates some of the best comedians ever assembled. Shout-out to Amy Miller, Janine Brito, and Kyle Mizono, who’ve graced the SF Bay Area in very meaningful ways, and another shout-out to the numerous CC favorites on the bill
